Peaceful Poppies Suite

A poppy is a flowering plant in the subfamily papaveroideae of the family papaveraceae. Poppies are herbaceous plants, often grown for their colourful flowers. One species of poppy, papaver somniferum, is the source of the narcotic drug opium which contains powerful medicinal alkaloids such as morphine and has been used since ancient times as an analgesic and narcotic medicinal and recreational drug. It also produces edible seeds.

Most people today know of the poppy as a symbol of remembrance of the soldiers who died during wartime because of the trench warfare in the poppy fields of Flanders, Belgium during World War I.

Every year when the veterans take donations, they give you a poppy flower to wear. As long as I can remember I have always donated to help our veterans out. The poppy is a reminder that many gave their lives in the first world war we were ever in.

This set is beautiful and would be great for any occasion. I plan on making many of these cards to hand out to the veterans at my grandmothers nursing home to show them that they are not forgotten.
